Long before the Tunguska meteor struck in Siberia in 1908, a similar event would rock the previous century, one marked by the bloodiest civil wars in history.

The Magistorm of 1864 was a sudden explosion of magical energies that stunned the world. A prevew of the destructive power of an atomic bomb would be unleashed before scientists had begun contemplating splitting the atom. With that release came an abundance of what would become known as "psychotelluric radiation." Humans had long forgotten how to tap into the eldritch energies used by their ancestors, now disregarded as the stuff of myths and legends. The Magistorm changed that notion.

Those who had only the glimmerings of psychic potential before suddenly discovered their third eye had been awakened. Arcane dabblers found their esoteric hobby to be all too real, with a price to be paid for middling amateur enthusiasts. Ancient repositories of magic were restored. Creatures of folklore once more made their presence known.

This newfound resource became yet another thing for nations to covet and fight over. Armed revolutionaries sought to upset the balance of power. Empires scrambled to assert dominance. In this new era of sorcerous might, the landscape of battlefield supremacy would be forever changed.
